Marcie Begleiter is a photographer, filmmaker and writer located in Los Angeles and California's Central Coast. Recent projects include writing and and directing "Eva Hesse", a feature documentary released worldwide and now available on Netflix, iTunes and DVD. The film was the broadcast in the fall of 2018 on PBS as part of their series American Masters.
Current projects include adapting Ursula Hegi's epic novel "Stones from the River" for the screen and a volume of photos and essays about seasons on California's Central Coast.
She is the author of "From Word to Image: Storyboarding and the Filmmaking Process", Available in 5 languages. As an artist and director is recipient of numerous grants including awards from the Durfee Foundation, the Foundation for Arts Resources and the NEA. As a designer and production illustrator she worked on dozens of films and TV projects including Sid and Nancy, Torch Song Trilogy and Sister, Sister.
In academia, served as Director of Design and Pre-Visualization for Graduate Film at Art Center College of Design and was Founding Director of the Integrated Learning Program at Otis College of Art. Begleiter has lectured on visual storytelling at the American Film Institute, the Directors Guild of America, the Academy for Television Arts and Science, UCLA, USC and the International Filmschule in Cologne.
